L-280 Followership to Leadership


COURSE DESCRIPTION: This training course is designed as a self-assessment opportunity for individuals preparing to step into a leadership role. The course combines one day of classroom instruction followed by a second day in the field with students working through a series of problem solving events in small teams (Field Leadership Assessment Course). Topic areas include:

*Leadership values and principles
*Situational leadership
*Ethical decision-making
*Transition challenges for new leaders
*Team cohesion factors
*After Action Review Techs.

Target Group: Personnel desiring to be qualified as a Single Resource Boss, and/or personnel desiring to develop their leadership skills while making the transition to Company Officer.

Prerequisite: L-180 offered June 3, 2010; see course announcement on www.heartlandfiretraining.org

Pre Course Work: “Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun” by Wess Roberts. Book and assignment will be sent to you.
THIS ASSIGNMENT IS A MUST FOR CLASS PREPARATION!

Students must have their Miramar College Admission application on file prior to class (www.sdmiramar.edu);
mandatory college registration for this course will take place in class on first day.
College enrollment fees are not included in fee listed below.

INSTRUCTORS:
BRET DAVIDSON
; BC RANCHO SANTA FE FIRE PROTECTION/ TRAINING OFFICER. HE CURRENTLY TEACHES AT THE PALOMAR FIRE ACADEMY, AND HAS TAUGHT CLASSES AT MIRAMAR COLLEGE, IMPERIAL VALLEY COLLEGE AND THE HEARTLAND FIRE TRAINING FACILITY.

DOUG ELLIOTT; CAPTAIN HEARTLAND FIRE & RESCUE DEPARTMENT. HE IS A SAFETY OFFICER ON A TYPE 2 INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM. HE CURRENTLY TEACHES AT MIRAMAR COLLEGE, HEARTLAND FIRE TRAINING FACILITY AND IS UNDER CONTRACT WITH CAL FIRE AND THE USFS TEACHING ANNUAL REFRESHER TRAINING TO PRIVATE CONTRACTORS.

TYLER BATSON; HAS OVER 14 YEARS OF COMBINED EXPERIENCE IN THE UNITED STATES SPECIAL OPERATION FORCES; NAVY SEALS AND PUBLIC SERVICE. HE CURRENTLY WORKS AS A FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC FOR THE ESCONDIDO FIRE DEPARTMENT.
